RUPTL PLN 2025-2034 (Rencana Usaha Penyediaan Tenaga Listrik)
Since the launch of the RUPTL 2025–2034 by the Government of Indonesia couple of months ago, we’ve taken a closer look at what this roadmap means for Indonesia’s energy. The RUPTL stands as the country’s official electricity supply business plan and 10-year power development roadmap. RUPTL serves as a strategic guideline to meet Indonesia’s growing electricity demand while shaping Indonesia’s energy transition.
What makes this new RUPTL 2025 – 2034 significant? A major acceleration in renewable energy deployment! The new RUPTL edition signals a stronger commitment to sustainability, and it serves as a key reference point for energy stakeholders across the sector.
And here’s the spotlight for geothermal energy.
Out of the targeted 42.6 GW of additional renewable capacity, geothermal is expected to contribute 5.2 GW. This reflects the government’s recognition of geothermal’s strategic role as a reliable base-load renewable to support a demand-driven grid, ensuring system reliability, and providing stable energy for energy-intensive industries.
RUPTL 2025–2034 sets an ambitious target for Indonesia’s energy future and it left us a critical question “Is geothermal ready to step up as a key enabler in powering a cleaner, demand-driven economy?” To realize these ambitious targets of geothermal, accelerating project development will require effective risk-sharing mechanisms to improve project bankability and attract investment. Aside from that, regulatory certainty and infrastructure alignment to streamline permitting and synchronize project timelines. Last but not least, a comprehensive community engagement to build trust and provide clarity on environmental and economic benefits. Do you have any other thoughts on this?
On this feed we’ve summarized the key aspects of renewable energy in the new RUPTL to help you quickly grasp the essentials.
